AI and/or teachers?

The subject of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation replacing human labour is not a new one, however conversations about the rise of AI in teaching and education have gained traction particularly as the pandemic brings learning online. Even as some educators observe that college-level teaching is seeing a rise of AI teaching assistants in classrooms, there are those who point out the salient questions that innovators and educators need to ask themselves around the benefits and limitations of AI in teaching

What will a future of education, where AI technologies are employed creatively and ethically in classrooms look like? How will human educators’ scope of work evolve through this time? We need to be cognisant of the aspects of teaching that only human educators can provide as we re-conceptualise the role of teaching.

Education in the Spotlight
Will the Edtech boom continue for companies, as schools slowly move back to in-person classes?
Schools cannot offer personalised education alone, and partnerships with community organisations are vital for tackling inequalities among students.
What researchers have learned is that two things can be true at the same time. The shift to online school led to struggle for many, and it led young people to act creatively and with ingenuity.
For older generations, school choice is as much a marker of familial social and economic wealth as an indicator of academic achievement.
Declines in Indonesia and the Philippines are amongst the largest in the world, with satisfaction falling amongst residents struggling on income.
Universities can be leaders in helping young people gain the knowledge they need to navigate this uncertain future, by connecting them to relevant leadership.
We must re-imagine what students learn at this critical juncture in history for the world to improve its odds against the threat.

That's all for the week!
