A glimpse of post-lockdown living

Many people around the world are looking forward to life after lockdown, after months of staying home. But will life still be the same? We take a look this week at what countries are doing.

AustraliaEuropeHong KongIndia and New Zealand have announced a phased approach to easing lockdown measures this month. Retailers, entertainment venues, sports, gyms, and schools are expected to progressively reopen, while being cautious about big group gatherings. China's experience provides a preview of the steps authorities may take to avoid a second wave of infections.

In parallel, countries are also resuming domestic travels and in discussions to reopen borders for international travel. Australia and New Zealand for instance are looking to create a 'travel bubble' between the two countries. However, flying will look a lot different than we remember it to be. Higher fares, longer waits and fewer in-flight service are just some of the ways COVID-19 is changing air travel. Besides your passport, a proof of being virus-free may also be required at immigration checkpoints, to avoid quarantine.

One thing is for sure though. Safe distancing measures will remain - a challenge that businesses and schools will have to contend with. This will mean reduced capacity and increased costs for many businesses, while teachers will have to find creative ways to engage students yet keep them apart when schools reopen. This is a whole new way of living that we will need to get used to.
